Here's an idea for you, CCP.
Run an Armageddon day once every year. Work out how many people Sisi can take without failing. If oversubscribed, get a list of everyone who's interested, and pick the X people randomly. Charge ú10 or thereabouts for a ticket. Give the total income to a charity of CCP's choice.
Result ... people are happy, charity gets a good few grand (ú5000 = 500 players at ú10 each maybe?), CCP get splendid press coverage and generally look great all around.
Don't do it too often because there won't be anything "special" about it, but whatdya say?

Originally by: Niccolado Starwalker I like the idea.
However, I think people will set demands to uptime of the testserver since they pay for it. They will demand reliability and stability for those 10 pounds, even on the test server. Now, if you COULD make EVERYONE to understand that those 10 pounds includes geting you booted now and then, throttled logins, extreme lag etc. Then go for it! It is a good idea! I just see problems convincing others it is!
Thanks for replying positively mate. I reckon CCP could calculate the maximum reliable numbers that Sisi could support, and it should be limited to that.
Hell, if Sisi can't take more than a few hundred, just give people 2-3 hours for a tenner or whatever and force everyone to rotate and take their turn. Give people an assigned time they can log in. Not sure of the technical specifics but I'm sure the CCP guys could sort out a ticket system.
A bit of fun, shoot the devs, fly a Titan ... and a charity will benefit.
Maybe every year the week before Christmas?

Originally by: SexxxSlave first of all, we pay enough as it is already. second of all, if i wanted to pay 10 dollars for a CHANCE at something....id play the f'n RL lotto. Third of all, if i wanted to be randomly selected from a list to play a game, I would sign up for a beta.
Poor Idea, EPIC Fail.
Ah, I didn't mean you pay your ú10 to go into the hat for a chance of playing. If it's over subscribed, only those who actually get to play pay the ú10 (or whatever is deemed appropriate).

Originally by: Phantom Slave Who's to say you have to pay before you sign up? Why not have everybody sign up, and whoever gets picked pays, and those that don't can try again next year.
I fully endorse this idea. Hell, I had my fun on Armageddon day. The next time, I'll just donate $10 (or $15 is american currency keeps plummeting) to help the cause.

Cheers. As I said above that was what I meant, but maybe didn't make it clear enough. Doh!
I'm not after some money grabbing lottery where tons of people pay money for something they don't get to even play.

Originally by: An Anarchyyt And maybe when Factional Combat comes out, it should raise the level cap to 80, introduce the Jovian Empire, and only cost $29.95.
What are you talking about? Do you have to throw a negative spin onto everything?
I'm talking about once a year. If you play you pay ú10 or so. No obligation to play. No negative effects if you don't. No changes to TQ. CCP do a good deed and will get some good press over this, as well as feeling all glowy inside. The players get some fun, for let's face it - pocket money. Someone, somewhere who's worse off than us gets to benefit.
Win / win all around IMO.

Originally by: Sarah Aubry Just do it on eve anniversary day every year on TQ. Next day roll the server back to the day before so nothing changes (TQ just misses a day).
Give all the carebears a chance to try pvp and maybe they like it and start doing it every other day :)
To be honest I don't like the idea of messing around with the TQ cluster. That's CCP's bread and butter and there's far too much that could go wrong and really annoy people.
This event shouldn't get in the way of the day-to-day Eve game.

Originally by: Raneru I wouldn't pay for Armageddon Day tbh. Once you have killed a few carriers and had your dread blown up a few times the novelty wears off quickly.
Fair enough. You haven't lost out and that's your decision to make.
However I don't think they'd have much trouble getting a few hundred players to pay a tenner to play, looking at how vastly oversubscribed Armageddon day was a couple of days ago, and how many people sat trying to get in literally all day.

Originally by: Bimjo OP , you want constructive comments if we don't agree with you ? ok here are mine : Nice idea but how about changing some of them ? 1. yearly event ? YES 2. on SISI ? NO 3. 24 hours on a SAT or SUN on Tranquility ? YES (same rules, NO RULES Uber skills ) 4. Charge ? NO ! ! ! this would get most aboard your idea
It means some people will be inconvenienced in the "Real" Tranquility for 24 but how would you like 35000 PvPers all over EVE Universe duking it out ? without fear of ANY losses ?
Of course, anyone's welcome to comment mate.
The idea isn't really to get every single player doing it at once. It's to give a bit of an opportunity for some players to enjoy the Armageddon experience, and I thought they could do it for a charitable cause and do some good as a side effect.
I really don't agree with the whole TQ cluster being switched over. It would be a logistical nightmare. For example would training skills halt while TQ was doing something else?
It's likely to go horribly, horribly wrong, and a lot of people will want to continue to play "normal" Eve, and that's their right as that's what they are paying to do.
TQ is CCP's money earner, and that should not be messed around with for what is frankly a frivolous bit of fun.
The payment bit, well that's kinda the point of what my whole idea revolves around. A lot of people won't want to pay, but on the flipside, a lot will.
